The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low income households stay safe and healthy by providing financial assistance to offset the costs of heating and cooling. LIHEAP particularly helps households that pay a high portion of household income for home energy to meet their immediate home energy needs. In Tennessee LIHEAP is administered through a network of 19 local agencies that reach all 95 counties. LIHEAP is a one-time assistance offered to help pay heating and cooling expenses, as long as funding is available. Assistance does not go directly to the client or applicant; rather direct payments are made through the LIHEAP agency to the local utility company or energy supplier.
Applicants must meet income eligibility requirements. Income eligible household are those at or below 150% of the U.S. Poverty Guidelines. See our chart of household income limits to see if you are eligible.Clients that have been served by LIHEAP within the past two (2) years can apply online using the LIHEAP Online Application if desired.
